Who We ARE

Pious Ladies Bookmobile and Writers' Guild is an independent, online book and media store that specializes in Catholic books and media.  Our selections speak to the intellect and the imagination as viewed through the Catholic prism. Following in the footsteps of Idylls Press and other contemporary publishing and distribution companies, we also very much hope to contribute to a new Catholic literary renaissance appropriate to the needs of our time.  In this we are guided by the vision of Blessed James Alberione, founder of the Pauline Family of religious orders and institutes.  Blessed Alberione, on the "Night Between the Centuries" (ie. December 31, 1900), while at prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament, experienced a call from Christ to use the means of social communication to act as 20th century St. Pauls, being "all things to all men" in bringing the gospel to every area of secular and cultural life.

We do not exclusively sell Catholic works, but also feature academic press titles, general literature and non-fiction titles, genre fiction (mystery, horror, science fiction, fantasy) -- anything that appeals to us from any subject area or classification.

Note about orthodoxy, heresy, and other matters of possible inquisitorial concern: The books we sell are not confined to those that would, if submitted, receive a Catholic imprimatur or nihil obstat. You will find here the religious and philosophical writings of Protestant authors  as well as those from non-Christian traditions such as Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, Native American, etc. You will find literary works from atheists, cynics, decadents, and other writers representing literary traditions that may appear inimicable to the Catholic perspective.  We stock writers that interest us, some of them troubled souls whose work seems to indicate an intense flight from the Hound of Heaven. We leave it to heaven to judge their souls. We will sell the works of their imagination and intellect if they intrigue us and lead us to contemplate the serious questions of what it means to be human.

What we will not sell is books of the occult; books of unexamined private revelation; or books that claim to channel the communications of non-human beings. We are all to aware of the reality of non-human entities, and will have no traffic with any whose communications are not approved by the Catholic Church as worthy of belief.
